Memorial Day Plans

I hope all of you are as ready for the long weekend as I am!  If I’m not around much for the next few days it’s because I’m “busy” laying in the sunshine and floating in the pool…and eating way too much food.  I will do my very best to remember to take some pictures this weekend to share Monday night Tuesday.

As much as I enjoy all of that, I can’t forget what Memorial Day is about.  If you know me at all, you know that I have a huge soft spot for our service men and women.  I can’t even imagine doing what they do, and I feel so blessed to live in a country where men and women volunteer their lives for the rest of us.  The picture above was taken in my town (Jackson, TN).  This project, the Flags of Freedom, is sponsored by the Exchange Club, and is done every year.  The flags are displayed for most of May, and serve not only to honor our fallen, but also to raise awareness for child abuse and neglect (as this is the main focus of the Exchange Club Carl Perkins Center for the Prevention of Child Abuse).  It really is an incredible sight to see over 1,000 flags representing children who have lost their lives to abuse, fallen soldiers, and first responders every time I drive down the road.
This weekend while we’re all eating and sunning and swimming, I hope you’ll join me in remembering the men and women who work to protect this lifestyle.
